Ford F-150 12th gen: the upgrades that keep your wheels
Most of what owners fit to this generation is a tire purchase rather than a wheel-and-tire purchase, and the arithmetic shows why.

Neither factory axle ratios nor transmission gear ratios are recorded for this platform. Four factory sizes and a 5.15% spread
245/70R17 at 30.50 in, 265/70R17 at 31.61 in, 275/55R20 at 31.91 in and 275/65R18 at 32.07
in. From the base to the tallest is 1.57 in.
Note the order: the 18-inch fitment is the tallest, marginally above the 20-inch one. Wheel diameter and tire diameter do not run in step on this platform, which is worth knowing before assuming a larger wheel means a larger tire.
Sizes that need nothing but tires
Three of the commonly fitted sizes are available on the wheels the truck already has, and the changes are small:

All three sit inside the tolerance a substitution convention would accept. The speedometer moves by a couple of percent at most, the effective final drive by the same, and nothing needs recalibrating for the arithmetic to stay honest.
This is a different character from the generation that replaced it, where the popular sizes are several inches taller and the wheel usually changes with them.
The base truck's numbers are larger
From 245/70R17, the same three sizes are meaningfully bigger steps: 285/70R17 is +2.20 in and
7.23%, 285/65R18 is +2.08 in and 6.83%, and 33x12.50R20 is +2.50 in and 8.18%.
At 8.18%, an indicated 70 mph is 75.7 and 100 miles of odometer is 108.2 covered — enough to be worth correcting if the vehicle allows it, and enough to change how the transmission behaves on a gradient.
Width is the second column to read
33x12.50R20 adds 2.85 in of section width from the base fitment and 1.67 in from the 20-inch one.
285/65R18 adds 1.57 in and 0.39 in respectively.
On a truck of this era, with the factory offsets it was built around, the width is usually where the first contact happens — at the inner liner or the sway bar link at full lock rather than at the top of the arch. Height gets discussed and width gets discovered.
Gearing, on a generation old enough that the ratio may have changed
Given the modest size of most changes here, the blank ratio column costs little: a 1.60% diameter change behaves like a 1.60% numerically lower final drive whatever the ratio is, and no transmission notices.

On a truck this age the tag is the figure to trust rather than a model-year table anyway: a decade-and-a-half-old half-ton may be on its second differential, and the one it left the factory with is not necessarily the one turning now.
The age factor
Every example of this generation is now well used, and tread wear is part of the rolling radius. A tire worn from 12/32 in to 4/32 in has lost half an inch of overall diameter, which is the same order as the smallest upgrade listed above — so a fresh set of the original size can measure taller than a worn set of the next size up.
Buying used wheels across the range
Take-off wheels from this generation are plentiful, and moving between the factory packages is a common route to a different tire. The arithmetic decides how painless that is: between the 18-inch and 20-inch fitments the rolling diameter changes by 0.52%, which is nothing, while between the base 17-inch and the 18-inch packages it is 5.15%, which is not.
The second of those would put an indicated 70 mph at about 73.6 and leave every wheel-speed-derived system reading the same error. Checking the pair in the comparison tool before buying a set takes less time than fitting one wheel.
What the arithmetic will not decide
Whether any of it clears. Cab and bed configuration, suspension condition after a decade or more, and wheel offset all decide contact. The recorded upgrade sizes describe what owners are widely observed to fit.
